As she and her ladies-in-waiting hurry in their spectral shrouds, they finally reach the cold, dark pit with their offering. Unfortunately, time is up...

I am exploring some of my favorite poetic lines in this little collection, Poetic Fragments. First up, the ever so gloomy French poet, Charles Baudelaire. The line, "I am a cemetery by moon unblessed..." is a line from the poem Spleen from his infamous 1857 collection Les Fleurs du mal. Baudelaire is largely known for his deep melancholic works that traverse themes of death and decay and beauty.

Interesting Fact: One of Baudelaire's muses was an actress by the name of Jeanne Duval. She inspired many of his more sensual works  where he seemed preoccupied with her hair and it has been said that their relationship was rocky to say the least. His poems about her seemed to revolve around her hair, jewels, and perfumes. Ooo la la.
